RULES DON’T APPLY Trailer

Warren Beatty’s name doesn’t get thrown around as much as it once did, but it’s still a name that carries weight. Many of his acting roles are classics, and while his career has seen him write, direct, and produce only a handful of times, the consistent success of these projects make him one of the great quadruple threats in the industry.
The now 79-year-old has largely been absent during the new millennium, but he’s been quietly working in all four capacities on his ‘50s throwback Rules Don’t Apply. The film was casting as far back as 2011, but production was delayed until 2014 after the initial financing fell through. Star and future Han Solo Alden Ehrenreich has been circling the project since the early days, as have several people from the extensive supporting cast. Lily Collins joined up later as the aspiring actress caught between Ehrenreich’s ambitious driver and Beatty’s Howard Hughes.
Beatty admits that he took his time editing, tweaking a story that’s part an ode to the Hollywood he crashed as a young man and part an indulgence in his long-time fascination with Hughes. The delay, unfortunately, has put it in a cinematic year intent on looking back. We’ve already seen the Coen’s Hail, Caesar! (which featured Ehrenreich) and Woody Allen’s Café Society, while La La Land is still being anxiously awaited. That leaves Rules Don’t Apply in danger of fading into the background, but it would be silly to sleep on the inimitable Beatty.
Rules Don’t Apply is directed by Warren Beatty and stars Beatty, Lily Collins, and Alden Ehrenreich. It will be released in the U.S. on November 23rd, 2016 and in the U.K. on January 27th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
