RICHARD JEWELL Trailer

Richard Jewell is the latest in a string of Clint Eastwood films based on real life figures. Jewell (Paul Walter Hauser) was a security guard who discovered a pipe bomb while working as part of the 1996 Olympics security detail. After helping evacuate the premises, Jewell became a suspect himself with both the FBI and the media investigating him. By the time the results came in Jewell’s reputation had been thoroughly damaged.

Richard Jewell is the first high-profile lead role for Paul Walter Hauser who broke out with supporting roles in I, Tonya and BlacKkKlansman last year. Considering the fact Richard Jewell is a film about the danger of unsubstantiated accusations and wild media speculation it will be interesting to see how it will be received. Over the last few years, the culture seems to have shifted in favor of the accuser which is understandable. This does raise the question of what happens to the accused? Not being able to prove your innocence is not the same as being guily. With an awards season regular like Clint Eastwood at the helm, Richard Jewell might be the film to propel Hauser into awards season consideration.

Richard Jewell is directed by Clint Eastwood and star Paul Walter Hauser, Jon Hamm, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde and Kathy Bates. It will be released on December 13th, 2019 in the U.S. with an as of yet unknown U.K. release date. For international release dates click here.
