RESISTANCE Trailer

There’s more than one way to fight the Nazis in Resistance, the latest from writer/director Jonathan Jakubowicz.

I know, we’ve all seen a bunch of WWII films, especially ones about individuals making small but meaningful efforts to help. But for some reason we haven’t delved into the early life of Marcel Marceau, a world-renowned mime who used his oddball skills to help the French Resistance. At first he was involved in getting children away from harm, a task he thrived at thanks to his entertainer instincts. Eventually this became much more direct fighting, of which he somehow made it out of alive.

Plucking interesting stories from history is nothing new to Jakubowicz, whose previous film, Hands of Stone, was a biopic of boxer Roberto Durán. He made his name long before that, though, with his internationally acclaimed movie Secuestro Express.

That acclaim is probably what attracted such a strong cast to Resistance, which is headlined by Jesse Eisenberg doing an Accent. On top of that he’ll presumably have to do some rudimentary miming, so this should be a nice stretch for him. Co-starring is Ed Harris, Edgar Ramírez, and Clémence Poésy.

For most people, this movie will just be an interesting facet of history brought to life. There’s a small few, I imagine, who’ll find the combination of genocide and mimes far too horrifying. Hopefully you’re one of the former.

Resistance is directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Clémence Poésy, and Matthias Schweighöfer. It will be released in the US on March 27th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
