RED SPARROW Trailer

So you want a female spy movie, huh? Well look no further than Red Sparrow, a star-studded tale of Russian and U.S. intelligence agents.

The film reunites The Hunger Games: Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence with star Jennifer Lawrence (no relation) and centers on a young agent from the Sparrow School of the Russian intelligence service. This trailer gives little else away, but it looks like Charlotte Rampling appears as a leader of one of the intelligence groups, which means multiple powerful women!

The film is based on the book of the same name from author Jason Matthews, who himself worked for the CIA for over 30 years. In fact, the book has earned praise for its realist portrayal of spy trade craft in addition to the merits of the writing, so the adaptation should offer spy aficionados a nice treat.

Everyone else will likely be satisfied with more of Francis Lawrence’s crowd-pleasing style, and the pairing of versatile stars in Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton lets us hope that there will be some meat to their shady characters.

Factoring in the book’s acclaim and the proven quality of the players attached, Red Sparrow looks like it will be intelligent entertainment (get it?).

Red Sparrow is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer LawrenceJoel Edgerton, and Ciarán Hinds. It will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on March 2nd, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
