REBELS OF THE NEON GOD Trailer

This is a rare occasion where I tell you about the re-release of a Taiwanese movie from 1992. Rebels of the Neon God is very similar to Taiwanese movies of the 90’s and most resembles Wong Kar Wai’s style of storytelling. Hsiao Kang drops out of school to be part of the revelry in Taipei. He meets and starts a whirlwind relationship with Ah Tze, a hood type girl that’s a mixture of “rivalry and hero-worship.”

It has all the ingredients of a decent meaningful 90’s film, such as awkward moments and the large spectrum of emotions involved in relationships. Most of all, it has real substance and is worth watching. And make sure you look out for those water scenes.

Rebels of the Neon God is directed by Tsai Ming-liang and stars Lee Kang-sheng and Chen Chao-jung. You can expect it in U.S theaters April 10th 2015.
