READY OR NOT Trailer

source: Fox Searchlight Pictures

It’s a marriage to die for (or at least I hope it is) in Ready or Not, the latest from the directing duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Grace (Samara Weaving) just wanted a chill wedding surrounded by the accouterments of her gaming mogul in-laws. Fancy dresses, immaculate lawns, and opulent decor shouldn’t be too much to ask, but she finds out that it comes with a price when they tell her of a silly old ritual. They require new family members to play one of their special games, which it turns out are taken a little too seriously. Okay, way too seriously, as being caught in their version of hide and seek involves being gruesomely murdered. Hope the wedding gifts were worth it!

It’s clear from the trailer that Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are well aware of how silly the premise is, keeping plenty of humor mixed in with the horror. Their background is firmly in scares, though, with the feature Devil’s Due and a segment from V/H/S under their belts. This production is a big step up for them, though, and they’ve got the requisite impressive names appearing in front of the camera.

To be honest, I mostly want to see Andie MacDowell work up some blood lust. She’s one of the extensive family members hunting Weaving (who you might recognize from Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and a slew of TV parts). Co-starring is Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, and Henry Czerny.

Ready or Not is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and stars Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, and Mark O’Brien. It will be released in the US on August 21st, 2019 and in the UK on September 27th, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
