RAMPAGE Trailer

Embrace the silliness or get out of the way of Rampage, because this monster movie isn’t claiming to be anything more than a good time.

In case you’re wondering where they got the idea of jumbo-sized animals tearing apart cities, the film is based loosely on the arcade game of the same name where you played either a gorilla, a werewolf, or a lizard trying to raze buildings and survive military attacks. The film puts a plot around the carnage, namely through Dwayne Johnson trying to save the once-friendly gorilla, but you can’t (and shouldn’t) dress this thing up as more than it is.

Johnson is a consummate entertainer, which makes him a perfect fit for these breezy thrill rides. He and director Brad Peyton already gave us a good disaster flick in San Andreas, so I expect Rampage to follow a similar formula: big set pieces with simple setups. This allows them to pummel you with action scenes until you don’t care how dumb they are, and therein lies the fun of this style of adventure films.

This isn’t a Godzilla-style slow build; it’s a monster mash that they’re excited to show off. The trailer lets you see all three monsters, and the glee with which Jeffrey Dean Morgan introduces the 30 foot wolf says it all.

Rampage is directed by Brad Peyton and stars Dwayne JohnsonJeffrey Dean Morgan, and Naomie Harris. It will be released in the U.K. on April 13th, 2018 and in the U.S. on April 20th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
