PROJECT POWER Trailer

No one just says no in Project Power, the latest from directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

The new drug flooding the streets of New Orleans makes for one of the few situations where you should listen to Nancy Reagan. It seems like fun at first; taking it means you get five minutes worth of superpowers, and no one’s saying no to that. But people walking around with superpowers throws everyday life into chaos, and only a few people recognize the danger. They have to team up to have any chance of stopping it, which is how a dealer, a cop, and an army vet ends up fighting the influx of the dangerous drug together.

The premise promises lots of high octane action, but it looks like there’s also plenty of easygoing charm mixed in. That comes with having Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as your stars, who along with Dominique Fishback play the core group fighting against the strange new drug.

In many ways, this is a natural extension for Joost and Schulman, whose strange career has gone from the documentary Catfish to the gamer adventure Nerve. They seem drawn to material that both entertains and questions the boundaries of our society, which Project Power seems likely to do as well. Hopefully, they can find the balance yet again.

Project Power is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman and stars Jamie FoxxJoseph Gordon-Levitt, and Dominique Fishback. It will be released on Netflix worldwide on August 14th, 2020.
