PRISONERS OF THE GHOSTLAND Trailer

Come along for a wild ride, if you dare, with Prisoners of the Ghostland, the latest from director Sion Sono.

If you’ve heard of Sono, then you’ll know what you’re in for here. If not, well, be warned that his movies are notorious for extreme violence, sex, and downright weirdness. They aren’t for everyone, but for those interested in seeing the edges of genres and conventions pushed, he might be a guy you want to check out.

The film follows a mysterious bad guy who’s given a chance to repay his debts, or at least get out of prison, with the on-the-nose name Hero. A powerful man’s granddaughter has been kidnapped, and Hero may be the only one capable of getting her home. Still, no one trusts him, so he’s suited up in plenty of leather and explosives that will go off if he doesn’t complete the job.

It looks like a bizarre mix of genres, most of which involve plenty of bloodletting, so of course, Nicolas Cage is front and center as Hero. Cage and Sono are a match made in some people’s heaven, and with the similarly adventurous Sofia Boutella co-starring (remember Climax?), this should be exactly what you think it is.

Prisoners of the Ghostland is directed by Sion Sono and stars Nicolas Cage, Sofia Boutella, and Bill Moseley. It will be released in the US and the UK on September 17th, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
