Go back to an early encounter in Prey, the latest from director Dan Trachtenberg.
As the fifth entry in the Predator series, Prey is, of course, about everyone’s favorite trophy-hunting extraterrestrials, but this time we follow one of their first encounter with humans. It lands in the Comanche Nation of North America, long before European settlers have colonized the area, and meets with the usual fierce resistance humanity throws at the creatures. After all, it wouldn’t be worth hunting us if we weren’t a challenge, right? Its main obstacle this time is a capable young warrior, able of taking out a bear with no problem, who just might be up to the challenge of this allegedly more advanced species.
The Predator series hasn’t been the most stable of the creature feature horror series, but there’s good reason to hope this one will be among the best of the franchise. The fresh scenario this film offers is a major reason why, as is the leadership of Trachtenberg, who pulled off a similar revamp of the Cloverfield series with 10 Cloverfield Lane. This is his follow-up to that impressive debut, and everyone, Predator and general movie fans alike are eager to see if he’ll continue that success.
Starring as the formidable Comanche fighter is Amber Midthunder, a star of the rebooted TV series Roswell, New Mexico. She’ll have a lot more action to navigate than that CW series put her through, so hopefully, she’s up for the task. Co-starring with her is Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat, Dakota Beavers, and Dane DiLiegro under that Predator costume.
Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and stars Amber Midthunder, Dane DiLiegro, and Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat. It will be released worldwide on Hulu on August 5th.
