PIG Trailer

Nicolas Cage loses the one thing he cares about in Pig, the feature debut of writer/director Michael Sarnoski.

Now, before you get excited thinking Cage will go off in defense of his swine, know that Pig doesn’t appear to be one of his ultra-violent movies. The trailer introduces him as a defeated man driven into the Northwestern US wilderness by some unknown chain of events. Here he lives a quiet life, hunting truffles with his pig and generally keeping to himself. It’s only when his pig is stolen that he’s forced into a grave search through Portland to find his companion, which feels more like a dejected necessity than a crusade.

This is the kind of movie that reminds you Cage is capable of much more than his paycheck scrambling gigs generally allows him to show, and that kind of publicity should bring plenty of eyes to Sarnoski’s debut. With only a handful of shorts and some TV work to his name, he’s a big unknown, but Cage was so impressed with the project that he signed on to produce as well as star.

And Cage, like he is in so many of his projects, is the attraction here. Co-stars Alex Wolff and Adam Arkin provide solid backup, but with so many people rooting for Cage to build on his recent success, the prospect of a meaty role with the backing of a quality distributor like Neon will be something they must-see.

Pig is directed by Michael Sarnoski and stars Nicolas Cage, Alex Wolff, and Adam Arkin. It will be released in the US on July 16th, 2021. Further release dates are not currently known.
