PEPPERMINT Trailer

Jennifer Garner is kicking butt again in Peppermint, returning to the action genre that made her a star.

Some may recall her breakout run headlining the spy series Alias while others may remember her unfortunate turn in Elektra more, but she’s older and wiser now, settling into a role that has been picking up steam of late: the vengeful mother. In Peppermint her entire family is killed in a drive-by shooting, and when the courts fail to give her justice, she takes matters into her own hands.

It’s a tried-and-true setup for a revenge flick, hewing pretty close to the material that put director Pierre Morel on the map. His Taken was all about a father being forced back into a violent life to protect his kid, so just switch the gender and reconfigure the setup for maximum sympathy (okay, I don’t see a dog, so perhaps not maximum sympathy) and you’ve got Peppermint.

Garner does seem to have a particular set of skills, though, and going against an entire gang will give her plenty of opportunities to show them off. In fact, her main adversary may turn out to be a cop played by John Gallagher Jr., whose character will almost certainly raise the question of whether her violence is justified after all.

Peppermint is mining a tale as old as time, and it’s got the pieces in place to make it a special entry in the genre.

Peppermint is directed by Pierre Morel and stars Jennifer GarnerJohn Gallagher Jr., and John Ortiz. It will be released in the US on September 7th, 2018 and in the UK on September 21st, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
