PATERSON Trailer

A man named Paterson living in a town called Paterson seems quaint, like a small oddity you brush by on a road trip. It’s certainly not something you stop for, but then writer/director Jim Jarmusch rarely stops for the obvious thing.
Many of Jarmusch’s films, which are considered exemplary of the American independent scene, ignore traditional plot structures, but Paterson seems to be taking things to a tranquil extreme. Paterson, the man, has a happy marriage, a respectable job, and a fulfilling hobby. Conflict is absent from his life, but somehow Jarmusch has formed this traditionally uncinematic existence into a movie critics and fans are raving about.
In teaming up with Jarmush, Adam Driver continues to add to his impressive list of collaborators, be it blockbuster helmers like J.J. Abrahms or small-time auteurs like Jeff Nichols. The same can be said of co-star Goshifteh Farahani, who has appeared in everything from Asghar Farhadi’s About Elly to Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings.
Whether their combined forces can lift Paterson beyond its highly successful festival run is questionable, as the film is a hard sell to audiences accustomed to watching action-packed adventures. Then again, if it truly does tap into the beauty of everyday existence, it should have plenty of common ground to connect to.
Paterson is directed by Jim Jarmusch and stars Adam Driver and Golshifteh Farahani. It will be released in the U.K. on November 25th, 2016 and in the U.S. on December 28th, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
