OUTSIDE THE WIRE Trailer

A drone pilot gets a strange assignment in Outside the Wire, the latest from director Mikael Håfström.
Given the remoteness of his work, Thomas isn’t used to things getting too messy. He gets his orders and carries them out from the safety of a base, his highly-trained role keeping him sequestered from front line action. All that changes when a new assignment gives him a new partner, though, one who very much enters the fray. In fact, their mission is about to get so action-packed that they couldn’t send a human in, which why a drone pilot and an android have been tasked with the job.
That’s right, Anthony Mackie’s tough guy Leo isn’t a guy at all. He’s secretly an android super-soldier, which means you should expect a lot of crazy stunts and action from this one.
It’s a brand Netflix has been trying to push for a while now with less than spectacular results, but considering big action blockbusters have been gone for nearly a year now, people just might watch this one in droves once it pops up on their Netflix account.
Mackie’s face will certainly help sell people, but the rest of this project is populated by people unknown to the average moviegoer. Damson Idris, who has a few unnotable credits, co-stars as the drone pilot and director Mikael Håfström has been kicking around doing middling genre movies for years. They should be enough to prop up the film around Mackie, though, and with few other options, hopefully that’s enough for action fans.
Outside the Wire is directed by Mikael Håfström and stars Anthony Mackie, Damson Idris, and Emily Beecham. It will be released worldwide on Netflix on January 15th, 2021.
