ORPHAN: FIRST KILL Trailer

Discover the origins of a terrifying killer in Orphan: First Kill, the latest from director William Brent Bell.

The 2009 hit Orphan was predicated on an out-there twist, one that wasn’t held until the end of the movie but whose teasing was half the fun. Doing a prequel to that movie means everyone going in will know what’s going on with the titular orphan, and no, it’s not just that she’s murderous.

If you’ve somehow missed the plot of Orphan, check out now, because there’s no way to discuss First Kill without giving it away.

First Kill follows the “orphan” (in reality a grown woman) Ester’s first attempt at tricking a family to take care of her. Shortly after breaking out of the Estonian mental hospital where she was held, she comes to America and claims to be the missing daughter of a wealthy couple. Much like in the first film, the secret doesn’t hold for long, and she has to take violent steps to keep the charade going.

Picking up the series over 10 years later means this isn’t a quick cash grab, but getting it to work now that the secret’s out is a big task for Bell. Luckily this isn’t his first attempt at keeping a series alive, having helmed both entries in The Boy series.

Returning, of course, is the chilling Isabelle Fuhrman as Ester. Co-starring with her are Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland, and Hiro Kanagawa.

Orphan: First Kill is directed by William Brent Bell and stars Isabelle Fuhrman, Julia Stiles, and Rossif Sutherland. It will be released in the US and the UK on August 19th, 2022. For international release dates, click here.
