ORDINARY WORLD Trailer

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has done a few acting gigs in recent years, but nothing with the heft and screen time of Ordinary World. In the film, Armstrong stars as a rocker in the midst of a mid-life crisis, and his presence is surprising not only as an actor but as a normally aging adult.
His character has left the stage behind for normal family life, and with that comes greying hair and a basic style. It’s a far cry from the meticulously constructed punk persona Armstrong still wears on stage, and the striking difference between how we are used to seeing him and how he appears in this film adds a layer to the story that makes his presence seem less like stunt casting.
The film is the second feature from writer/director Lee Kirk after the 2012 romantic comedy The Giant Mechanical Man. Like that film, Ordinary World features an impressive supporting cast, including Selma Blair, Judy Greer, and Fred Armisen.
While the film centers on a former rocker, it doesn’t look like events will get too out of hand. Armstrong’s character is so domesticated that disregarding coasters seems like an act of punk rock rebellion. If anything, the trailer portrays the tenderness of family life like it’s something that’s hard to shake, even for wild excess. If the film does go for subtle observations like this, Armstrong and the rest of the cast will need to bring their A game to pull it off.
Ordinary World is directed by Lee Kirk and stars Billie Joe Armstrong, Selma Blair, and Judy Greer. It will be released in the U.S. on October 14th, 2016. Further release dates are not currently known.
