Tricks and shootouts abound in Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre, the latest from director Guy Ritchie.
Orson Fortune and his team of MI6 operatives have their eyes on a particularly insulated target: a wealthy arms dealer. With layers of protection between the deadly weapon he’s handling and his name, they’ll have to get very close to pinning him down. To wile their way in they recruit a famous actor (blackmail him, more accurately), but with a member that’s not used to their high stakes world, the whole plan could blow up at any moment.
While I’m obligated to outline the plot, understand that plot is window dressing in most Guy Ritchie movies. People show up for his style, which is slick, fast, and irreverent. What’s important is that this setup allows him to play with all his favorite action-comedy elements, so this is one of those movies where you should know exactly what to expect.
Jason Statham proved such a perfect match for Ritchie last time out that he returns as the titular Orson Fortune. His co-stars are a mix of Ritchie vets and people who feel like they’re Ritchie vets, including Aubrey Plaza, Bugzy Malone, Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, and Hugh Grant.
