ON THE ROCKS Trailer

Get ready for some quality father-daughter time in On the Rocks, the latest from writer/director Sofia Coppola.

Laura’s life isn’t where she expected it to be. It’s not falling apart, but it could very well be on its way to. At best she’s in a holding pattern trying to juggle work, kids, and a marriage. At worst this is the calm before the storm knocks out her precariously balanced life. And what better time to reconnect with her frivolous, good time having dad? He smells trouble brewing, too, but his suggestions may not be the fix she needs.

That, or they’re just going to meander around New York for a while. This is a Sofia Coppola movie, after all, and she’s not exactly known for her blistering plots. Mood is more her thing, as seen in Lost in Translation, Somewhere, and The Beguiled. This trailer has the feel of that relaxed tempo, which pairs perfectly with its two charming leads.

Really, is there anyone you want to hang out with more than Bill Murray? Already an alumnus of the Sofia hangout thanks to Lost in Translation, here he’s paired with Rashida Jones, who has her own easygoing appeal. Co-starring with them is Marlon Wayans.

This is sort of the perfect time for the low-key charm of a good Sofia Coppola movie. Hopefully, this is one of her good ones.

On the Rocks is directed by Sofia Coppola and stars Bill Murray, Rashida Jones, and Marlon Wayans. It will be released in theaters and on Apple TV+ in October 2020 (date has not been specified). For international release dates, click here.
