OLD Trailer

Time really slips away in Old, the latest from director M. Night Shyamalan.

A mother, father, and two young kids thought they had found a perfect summer getaway when they got a tip about a secluded beach. What they find is a beautiful if not quite deserted area, but they’re more than happy to share the pristine spot with a few other families. But they hardly have time to get relaxed before strangely discarded items are found, and then a dead body. Things only get more mysterious from there, as the people find themselves trapped and rapidly aging.

This is exactly the kind of puzzle box we expect from Shyamalan, who’s given us plenty of drawn-out creepers like The Sixth SenseUnbreakable, and Signs. It’s true that he lost his way for a while, perhaps too caught up by his own mythological role in the film world as the thoughtful shocker, but he seemed to have turned the corner in recent years and his films are highly anticipated once again.

That cachet means his films once again attract top-notch casts, this time with Gael García Bernal and Vicky Krieps as the parents of the main family and with the rest of the beach being populated by the likes of Rufus Sewell, Ken Leung, Alex Wolff, Eliza Scanlen, and Thomasin McKenzie.

It’s a hell of a group to bring us a creepy mystery on a beach. Hopefully, they don’t burn us.

Old is directed by M. Night Shyamalan and stars Gael García Bernal and Vicky Krieps. It will be released in the US and the UK on July 23rd, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
