THE OLD MAN & THE GUN Trailer

Robert Redford is riding off into the sunset with The Old Man & the Gun, claiming it will be his last film performance.
When looking at the role, it does seem like a fitting end to his legendary career; the movie is a take on a real-life bank robber who, when most people his age were puttering through retirement activities, broke out of prison and robbed banks. The trailer suggests that Redford’s version of the criminal will be a gleeful man, allowing him to lean into his own scalawag charm and mythos. The film is basically about a man who refuses to give in to time, and even if Redford is quitting acting, that still describes him pretty damn well.
Of course, Redford isn’t the only draw for this crime dramedy. The film is written and directed by David Lowery, who’s coming off two divisive projects in A Ghost Story and Pete’s Dragon. You’ll find people who love and hate both, and despite your feelings on the final products, their ambition makes them undeniably interesting.
With Lowery comes the impressive actors who work with him again and again. Redford is one, having appeared in Pete’s Dragon, and the man hunting him is played by none other than multiple Lowery alum Casey Affleck. The big pairing, though, is Redford with Sissy Spacek, whose flirtation takes up a large portion of this trailer. It’s always good to see Spacek on the big screen, and it looks like she’s getting a sharp character to work with.
With the news that this is Redford’s last role, though, all eyes will be on him. I know lots of fingers are crossed that he’ll go out in a blaze of glory.
The Old Man & the Gun is directed by David Lowery and stars Robert Redford, Sissy Spacek, and Casey Affleck. It will be released in the US on September 28th, 2018 and in the UK on December 7th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
