NORMAN Trailer

Sometimes you just need a connection, and when you do, you get someone like Norman. He’s probably not your favorite person, but he’s an integral part of getting things done, particularly in the interwoven lives of New York City’s elite. And who better to make this ingratiating character likable than Richard Gere?

Norman will no doubt benefit from having Gere in the titular role, not only in terms of quality but also box office. This is a talky film in an age of explosions, the kind where your pleasure comes from well-worded remarks and odd gestures instead of CGI battles. Gere can make the former work and sell tickets doing it, which gives this well-received movie a chance to shine outside of festivals.

To make things even more appealing, Gere isn’t the only name to hang your hat on. The supporting cast includes Dan Stevens, Michael Sheen, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, to name a few, and the movie itself is the English-language debut of acclaimed filmmaker Joseph Cedar. Cedar has taken home awards at major festivals like Berlin and Cannes in the past, so it seems natural for his material to attract such a strong group of actors. Hopefully it can attract a sizeable audience as well.

Norman is directed by Joseph Cedar and stars Richard Gere, Michael Sheen, and Lior Ashkenazi. It will be released in the U.S. on April 14th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
