Storm’s coming in Nope, the latest from writer/director Jordan Peele.

On a lonely ranch, two people keep their family’s film history alive. Their great (how many greats is up for debate) grandfather was the first person to appear in a moving picture, a Black man riding a horse, a piece of history. Now the pair train horses for Hollywood, an out-of-the-way part of the industry that just barely keeps the connection alive. All of that is put in jeopardy when a storm pops up, a storm unlike any other, one that threatens to take their livelihood and their lives.

This is still one of Peele’s trademark horror films, but he’s added a bit of science fiction and Western in there as well. What also seems to be holding over from Get Out and Us is the mystery element, the plot remaining a little hazy in this trailer, giving us just a tease of what this storm brings and how it will upend the characters’ lives.

Staring as the duo running the ranch is Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya, with Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, and Michael Wincott co-starring. It’s the kind of strong cast you expect to be drawn to a Peele film, but his pointed brand of horror is the real attraction here. He’s at the fore of the wave of adult horror, and another offering from him is always welcome.

Nope is directed by Jordan Peele and stars Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, and Steven Yeun. It will be released in the US on July 22nd, 2022. For international release dates, click here.
