Remember Mrs. Doubtfire? It’s not a spectacular movie, but I remember it fondly, having enjoyed it when I was little. I always loved Robin Williams – I think his Hook was one of my favorite movies growing up (admittedly, I do love pirate stories)… What? You can’t blame me – I wasn’t a picky kid!
Mrs. Doubtfire was always just a bit creepy though, and Peter Javidpour highlighted that creepiness in his recut of the movie. Here’s the trailer-like video for the horror version of Mrs. Doubtfire.
This is just brilliantly done. With a bit of dark, foreboding music, some flashing images and presenting some of the dialogue totally out of context gives the movie quite a horrific premise and undercurrent. In the original, Mrs. Doubtfire, or Daniel Hillard, was just a dad in a tough situation, trying to find a way to still see his kids, whom he loved dearly – and vice versa. It’s a hopeful, endearing movie.
In this recut version, Hillard’s a stalker-like figure with no respect for boundaries, sneaking into his children’s home under the guise of a harmless old woman. He’s creepy and kind of frightening. It has to be said, though, that if you consider the premise and idea of Mrs. Doubtfire more objectively, it really is freaky. The horror version seems a lot more fitting to the premise of the story.

What do you think of this recut of Mrs. Doubtfire? Did you enjoy watching the original when you were younger?
