MONEY MONSTER Trailer

Jodie Foster’s sporadic directing career continues with Money Monster, and it’s all but guaranteed to be her biggest hit. The leading duo of George Clooney and Julia Roberts alone should generate more than the $25 million Foster’s directorial debut Little Man Tate made back in 1991, and so far the box office totals for her movies have declined with every outing. Money Monster will crush that trend thanks to its leads, a summer release, and a storyline that’s both topical and entertaining.

It’ll be interesting to see how Foster directs a thriller, as the genre has been the bread and butter of her acting career.  If she’s gleaned even an iota of information from watching the likes of Jonathan Demme, David Fincher, and Neil Jordan, then Money Monster should turn out very well.

As always seems to happen when actors start directing, their colleagues come out of the woodwork to be in their films, and this stacked cast is no exception to that rule. Besides Clooney and Roberts, the star-waiting-to-happen Jack O’Connell is the third piece in their standoff, and if you have any question about him pulling off a thriller, then you haven’t seen ’71. The rest of the trailer is littered with familiar faces (everyone caught the glimpses of Giancarlo Esposito, right?), so if Foster does stumble, the cast should be able to pick up the film and make it watchable. Money Monster just feels letdown proof.

Money Monster is directed by Jodie Foster and stars George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Jack O’Connell. It will be released in the U.S. on May 13th, 2016 and in the U.K. on May 27th, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
