Jason Statham is back, fighting and killing his way through another of his bread-and-butter action films. The man has established a firm place in the genre, appearing in some of the most violent, action-packed films of the last fifteen years, and Mechanic: Resurrection looks to be aimed right at his core audience.
The film sees him returning to the role of hitman Arthur Bishop, which he initially played back in 2011’s The Mechanic, itself a remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson vehicle of the same name. As you can see in the beginning of the trailer, Bishop specializes in elaborate kills, and the series thrives on the inventiveness of the deaths. I mean, how often do you see someone lock eyes with their killer just before being sucked into a deadly free-fall? Serves the anonymous target right for taunting gravity with an overhanging glass pool, but still, it’s a stylish moment.
With four credited writers, Mechanic: Resurrection should have no problem coming up with consistently thrilling set pieces, and Statham will bring his usual gruff machismo. You know what you’re getting here, and you know that Statham will deliver.
Mechanic: Resurrection is directed by Dennis Gansel and stars Jason Statham, Jessica Alba, and Tommy Lee Jones. It will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on August 26th, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
