MARRY ME Trailer

A wedding doesn’t go as planned in Marry Me, the latest from director Kat Coiro.

Okay, the premise is a bit more outlandish than that. It’s really about a pop star who is cheated on moments before her onstage wedding, and being the consummate performer she is, she makes sure the show goes on. She pulls a guy from the audience and they wed onstage, essentially launching a mild-mannered schoolteacher into superstardom. Of course, their lives don’t fit together, but because this is a romantic comedy, neither does the sensible thing and calls off the marriage. Instead, they see what comes of it, and it turns out some sparks do fly.

Yes, it’s silly, but it’s not as random a plot as you might think. This is actually an adaptation of the comic of the same name, so this story has worked before. Trying to capture that magic on the big screen is Coiro, who has a few films under her belt but has recently been working on television shows like Girls5eva and Dead to Me.

She’s got a charming pair in front of the camera to build around, with Owen Wilson playing the baffled teacher (expect a “wow”) and none other than Jennifer Lopez as the pop star. Obviously, both are playing to their strengths, so maybe they can find a way to make this movie a Valentine’s Day miracle.

Marry Me is directed by Kat Coiro and stars Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, and Maluma. It will be released in the US on February 11th, 2022. For international release dates, click here.
