Following a series of nightmarishly strange images released on the Internet, the 1st full-length trailer for Longlegs is finally here. And it will make your skin CRAWL.
The trailer opens on Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), a lone-wolf female FBI agent on the track of a mysterious serial killer in the Midwest. But as the bodies pile up, Harker realizes her connection to the murderer may be more… personal than she realized.
The trailer’s beautifully eerie imagery alternates between present-day the late 90s, hinting at Harker’s tortured past slowly being brought to light. As the presumed killer creepily narrates, “You could have made nice with me… but you didn’t. And now that has lead to all of this.”
With this trailer, director Oz Perkins has exploded onto the scene as a master of atmosphere. Divulging painfully little plot, the Longlegs trailer entirely sells itself on its desolate vistas, moody tone, and a visual style inspired by Hollywood’s classic psychological thrillers.
Notably, Longlegs has yet to reveal its biggest star Nicolas Cage, as the serial killer. Despite his reputation as the king of B-movie shlock, Cage has quietly built up an outstanding track record in the past few years. And if his deliciously creepy narration is anything to go by, his performance in Longlegs looks set to be a career highlight.
Longlegs is directed by Oz Perkins and is set to premiere theatrically in the US on July 12th, 2024, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage.
