LIZZIE Trailer
An infamous crime is brought to life in Lizzie, or at least one version of it is.
According to the children’s rhyme, Lizzie Borden took an axe and killed her father and stepmother in a gruesome manner, but no one really knows what happened in the Borden house in 1892. Rumors swirled even at the time, with a frenzied media lapping up every bit of information (and misinformation) as Lizzie was tried and found not guilty. History largely holds her accountable for the deaths, but her motivation and who else might have been involved still generates rampant speculation.
Lizzie seems to hop on one of the most intrigue-filled storylines, one where Lizzie had been having a relationship with the live-in maid and they conspired to do the killing together. Scandalous? Yes. Out of the question? No.
The project has been on the mind of star Chloë Sevigny for years, with her imagining it as a psychological examination of why Borden felt the murders were necessary. Her friend Bryce Kass wrote the screenplay and Craig William Macneill was the final director standing after a shuffle, but most audiences will be drawn in by the casting of Kristen Stewart as the maid. She’s a big name with lots of cachet; a perfect match for a serious look at an infamous crime.
Lizze is directed by Craig William Macneill and stars Chloë Sevigny, Kristen Stewart, and Kim Dickens. It will be released in the US on September 14th, 2018 and in the UK on November 18th, 2018. International release dates can be found here.
