THE LITTLE STRANGER Trailer

Horror continues to attract top names with The Little Stranger, the latest from director Lenny Abrahamson.

The period mystery will be a departure for Abrahamson, who first attracted attention with the quirky indie Frank and solidified his name with the award-winning Room. Here he’ll shift to some ghostly fears, as the film follows a doctor treating a family he knew as a child. Turns out the family isn’t as lively as he remembers them, and they may be burdened with more than the usual family quarrels.

Returning to work with Abrahamson is Domhnall Gleeson, who previously collaborated with him on Frank and has seemingly been working continuously since. Joining him is horror/mystery alum Ruth Wilson (I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House) and the legendary Charlotte Rampling.

Getting all these names indicates that the film probably has more up its sleeve than a simple haunting, with family drama and the aftereffects of trauma being hinted at heavily in this trailer. How these elements will be balanced and how much horror will end up in the final product remains to be seen, but it’s shaping up to be another thoughtful entry in the horror genre.

The Little Stranger is based on the novel by Sarah Waters, is directed by Lenny Abrahamson and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Ruth Wilson, and Charlotte Rampling. It will be released in the US on August 31st, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
