Dark forces abound in Guillermo Del Toro’s new haunted mansion horror movie Crimson Peak. Loki Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain are siblings hiding deadly secrets in 19th Century London. This film looks like a strong return to horror after Pacific Rim and his work on the Hobbit films.

Nothing I can say will do this movie justice. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Daniel SchafferScribbler is a dark, twisted trip into a futuristic mental illness halfway house. That’s all, go see it now, read the last post while you’re waiting for the popcorn.

And with every movie that goes for the happy ending, it’s important to remember that things don’t always work out. In storytelling, there’s a reason “Why Dark Endings Matter”.

From dark humor to diabolic horror, there will always be a market for the gritty reboot and general macabre. Do you enjoy the occasional descent into darkness or do you look for the brighter side of cinema? What’s your  favorite darkly tinted tale? Let us know in the comments!
