Links, Camera, Action Vol. 2: May The Force Be With You

Star Wars

From ideation to financing, distribution to production, the movie industry is just that, an industry. Let’s take a peek behind the projectors and movie screens at all facets of the films, and the people behind them, that we love. Let’s check out the links for this week. Do or do not, there is no try.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Last week, we looked at the anticipated releases for 2015. I’d have to say I’m most excited for Star Wars. Before we look ahead to the new film, let’s hop in the Way-Back machine and check out some of Ralph McQuarrie‘s Star Wars concept art for the original trilogy.

It’s the strangest thing though, I didn’t know that there were Muppets on Dagobah.

My memories of the original trilogy tend to outshine the feeling they give me now. Gone is the pure, unadulterated amusement of yesteryear. Yet the popularity of the films permeates all aspects of society, including this Star Wars snow sculpture from a Winter festival in Japan.

I can’t say I’m excited for the new movie because I think it will be good, but more so out of sheer curiosity. Can J.J. Abrams bridge the gap, paying tribute to the classic films while creating something new for this generation? Or will the whole thing be one, giant lens flare?

Honestly, Disney buying the rights to Star Wars is the greatest thing to happen to the franchise since The Clone Wars cartoon. The only thing better than a new movie is an immersive Disney Park to get lost in.

Do you think the new movie will live up to its legacy, carving out its place in film history? Will a whole new generation fall in love with Luke, Han, and Leia? Are you excited at the prospect of a new trilogy?

Share your thoughts in the comments, unless you’re too busy bolstering your lightsaber skills. (That crossguard lightsaber might actually work better than you’d expect)
