LIKE CRAZY Trailer

No, they haven’t remade the 2011 film Like Crazy, but the widespread applicability of the term ‘crazy’ is kind of the point, isn’t it? We’re loose about the way it’s used, labeling any behavior that deviates from the norm as crazy, but that’s a write off, a terse explanation for what is often a complicated situation.

So why not look at these ‘crazy’ people further, and why not have fun with it? That seems to be the pitch of this Like Crazy, an Italian film about two women who escape from a psychiatric facility for a joyous romp. The film premiered last year at the Directors Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival, earning praise for avoiding psychiatric clichés and for taking its characters seriously.

That basically translates to ‘the writing is good’, which should ease any concerns about the trailer’s broad sense of comedy. It’s funny and kind of wacky, yes, but it won’t ignore the darker stuff lurking underneath. The women are in a psychiatric facility for a reason, and these problems will likely bubble to the surface when the duo leaves that cloistered environment. Are they crazy? Maybe, but that’s hardly the end of the story.

Like Crazy is directed by Paolo Virzi and stars Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Micaela Ramazzotti. It opens in the U.S. on May 5th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
