LIGHT FROM LIGHT Trailer

A ghost isn’t just a ghost in Light from Light, the latest from writer/director Paul Harrill.

This would hardly be the first film to draw parallels between ghost hunting and our search for something more profound, but that’s exactly what Light from Light seems to be going for. Yes, it’s primarily about a part-time ghost hunter and her investigation of a widower’s home, but she’s also got a kid and a job and a bevy of other things taking up space in her life. How to juggle all that while also confronting devastating loss (because, you know, grieving husband searching for ghost wife) would make anyone question how they have set up their world.

Despite the big questions it raises the film seems to be playing it very low-key, meaning Harrill will have to be very precise to keep it from melancholic drifting. That’s a big ask with only one feature under his belt (2014’s Something, Anything), but word out of its festival run is that he manages to pull this delicate film off spectacularly.

He’s got a good cast to lean on, with character actress Marin Ireland getting a rare lead role, Jim Gaffigan as the widower, and Josh Wiggins as her son. You might have to search this one out, but it could be well worth the effort.

Light from Light is directed by Paul Harrill and stars Marin Ireland, Jim Gaffigan, and Josh Wiggins. It will be released in the US on November 1st, 2019. Further release dates are not currently known.
