THE LEISURE SEEKER Trailer

The Leisure Seeker is an upcoming adaptation of the eponymous 2009 novel by Michael Zadoorian. The Leisure Seeker is a road movie about John (Donald Sutherland) and Ela (Helen Mirren), an elderly couple who decide to go on a cross-country trip from Boston to Florida to visit the Ernest Hemingway House. Their trip is not just a fun vacation though, it’s an escape from the harsh realities of their life. Both John and Ela are suffering from serious health conditions which makes their trip rather dangerous.

This subject matter might make it seem like The Leisure Seeker will be rather heavy-handed, kinda like Michael Haneke‘s Amour, but judging from the trailer it seems like that couldn’t be further from the truth. This film seems to be more of a mixture of comedy and drama, a rather difficult combination to pull off. Given the talent involved I’d say this story is in good hands, if Sutherland and Mirren can’t make this story work, I don’t know who can.

The Leisure Seeker is directed by Paolo Virzi and stars Donald Sutherland, Helen Mirren, Christian McKay and others. It will be released in the U.S. on January 19th, 2018 and in the U.K. on April 13th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
