LAST NIGHT IN SOHO Trailer

A young woman finds a nightmare by going back in time in Last Night in Soho, the latest from co-writer/director Edgar Wright.

Eloise went to the big city to study fashion design, and while the modern-day version has its benefits, she finds herself drawn to the city of old. Literally, she somehow enters 1960s London, encounters a seductive singer, and seemingly begins to share her life. The details of how all this works are fuzzy from the trailer, but what’s clear is that it doesn’t end well, with the time travel causing something terrifying to come after her.

This looks to be some deliciously stylish horror, which is to be expected from Wright. He’s shown that he can apply s heavy style in movies like Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and he’s dipped into horror with Shaun of the Dead. His movies tend to blend genres, though, and with hints of romance and the general opaqueness of this trailer, I have a feeling this will have a collage of influences as well.

His long history of successful films means he was able to attract a first-rate cast, with the all-important linked roles of Eloise and her ’60s counterpart being played by rising stars Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy. They should be able to handle whatever Wright asks of them, and they’ll more than hold their own against co-stars Matt Smith, Diana Rigg, and Rita Tushingham.

While the particulars of this movie are being withheld, for now, most people don’t need much to be sold on a genre movie with such pedigree.

Last Night in Soho is directed by Edgar Wright and stars Thomasin McKenzie, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Matt Smith. It will be released in the US on October 22nd, 2021, and in the UK on October 29th, 2021. International release dates can be found here.
