THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO Trailer

After becoming the breakout hit of the Sundance Film Festival back in January, the trailer for A24’s newest feature, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, is finally here.

Directed by first time filmmaker, Joe Talbot, the film tells the story of Jimmie Fails. A young black man who, after moving away from his childhood home that his grandfather built, returns to reclaim it after gentrification have rendered the house and his neighborhood unrecognizable. Once back in San Francisco, Jimmie struggles to rekindle his relationships with his family and former friends played by an all-star cast of actors including Jonathan Majors, Danny Glover, Tichina Arnold, and Mike Epps.

If you paid any attention to Sundance at all, you’ve more than likely heard about The Last Black Man in San Francisco. After winning two major awards at the festival, it became one of those buzzy indie darlings you can’t help but root for. The story behind it makes its success that much more heartwarming. Talbot and Fails – who plays himself in the film – are lifelong friends who grew up in San Francisco. They had been planning to make the film since they were teenagers, and seeing two people who are incredibly passionate and willing to share their story in such a fulfilling way is so inspiring. The fact that it’s good also helps quite a bit too.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco joined The Farewell and The Souvenir as acquisitions A24 made at Sundance. It also won a Special Jury Prize, the US Dramatic Directing Award, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the festival.

A24 will release The Last Black Man in San Francisco in the US on June 7th, 2019.
