KATE Trailer

There’s no time to die in Kate, the latest from director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan.

Kate is a precise, reliable assassin, so when her aim is off while targeting the head of the Yakuza, she knows something is wrong. Turns out someone caught wind of her presence and assassinated her before she could do her job, but they chose a cruel, slow poisoning. With her life suddenly winding down, she chooses to spend what’s left doing what she does best: taking people out, but this time it’s for her own revenge.

With a premise that guarantees a kickass bloodbath and a bit of feminism, Kate is the kind of movie where you know what to expect, even from its likely “twists”. Delivering what is expected is kind of Nicolas-Troyan’s thing, having steered The Huntsman: Winter’s War towards the best the first movie had to offer (glorious camp) and away from any surprising. That didn’t make for the most auspicious debut, but with a scaled-back production like Kate, that could be all he needs to do.

At least there’s a sure bet in front of the camera in Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the titular ailing assassin, and many people will tune in just to see her kick butt like she did in Birds of Prey. Co-starring with her is Woody Harrelson, who appears to be playing a shady associate, and Miku Patricia Martineau as an enthusiastic sidekick Kate picks up along the way.

This appears to be exactly what it says on the box, so if you like rowdy revenge flicks, look out for this one when it hits Netflix.

Kate is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Miku Patricia Martineau, and Woody Harrelson. It will be released on Netflix worldwide on September 10th, 2021.
