JUNGLE CRUISE Trailer

The charm dial got turned up to 11 in Jungle Cruise, the latest from director Jaume Collet-Serra.

Based on a Disney theme park ride (stay with me), the film sees a a plucky scientist going into the jungle in search of the tree of life. Everyone doubts her, of course. A smart woman in the early 20th century who believes in magical powers? How silly. That’s why she has to pay a guide handsomely to take her, and for the job she gets a rough around the edges riverboat captain.

I know, it sounds silly, but so did Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Pirates of the Caribbean. Those films overcame their hokey origins with a game cast and clever action, both of which can be found all over this trailer. I mean, they got Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson to lead us through this adventure! Those are two of the most charming, game actors around, and if anyone can pull off this sort of material, it’s them.

They even roped in a quality director, landing The Shallows and Unknown helmer Collet-Serra. He’s a guy who knows how to deliver exactly what an audience wants, and he always brings a skilled professionalism to films that others might write off as mindless.

These are exactly the people you need to make Jungle Cruise a great time at the movies. Here’s hoping they fulfill its promise.

Jungle Cruise is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Jack Whitehall. It will be released in the US and the UK on July 24th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
