JOURNEYMAN Trailer

Journeyman tells the story of middleweight boxing champion Matty Burton (Paddy Considine). Burton has been a boxer for years and it seems all is fine until he collapses at home after a particularly punishing title defense. After undergoing brain surgery Matty is no longer able to concentrate while also suffering from speech and memory loss. When he comes out of his coma his personality has changed. Matty’s wife Emma (Jodie Whittaker) does her best to help him recover but in the end there’s only so much she can do.

Paddy Considine rose to fame through his roles in a number of Shane Meadows‘ films. Since then he’s become a widely respected actor, known for his ability to transform into any character he portrays. An actor who’s delivered impressive dramatic as well as comedic performances, he never disappoints. It’s exciting to see him develop both as an actor and as a writer-director. Journeyman looks like a film featuring impressive performances by Considine, Foster and Whittaker.

Considering the wealth of boxing films it’ll be interesting to see how Journeyman differs from all the other films that have come out over the years. In the last two years alone, boxing films such as Southpaw, Creed, Hands of Stone, Bleed for This and The Bleeder have all tried to capture the sweet science and the world around it. It’ll be interesting to see what Journeyman manages to add to this sub genre.

Journeyman is written and directed by Paddy Considine and stars Paddy Considine, Jodie Whittaker, Anthony Welsh, Tony Pitts and Paul Popplewell. It will be released in the U.K. on February 16th, 2018 with an as of yet unknown U.S. release date. For international release dates click here.
