Phil (Adam Devine) is addicted to his phone, he takes his phone with him no matter where he goes. When Phil changes phones he’s given a phone that is different to say the least. This phone is self-aware and talks to Phil as if she were human. The phone, Jexi (Rose Byrne) is not just self-aware, she has a personality which turns her relationship with Phil into a quasi-romantic relationship.
Once Phil starts to date Cate (Alexandra Shipp) Jexi becomes jealous. If hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, that’s nothing compared to what happens when your phone gets mad. Jexi quickly goes to work embarrassing Phil in front of his co-workers by using all the electronic accounts she has access to such as his banking account and his phone camera. In a world where our dependence on artificial intelligence is at an all-time high, a scenario like Jexi might not be as far away as we’d like to think.
Jexi is directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and stars Adam Devine, Rose Byrne, Charlyne Yi, Michael Peña and Wanda Sykes. It will be released on October 11th, 2019 in the U.S. with an as of yet unknown U.K. release date. For international release dates click here.
