ISLE OF DOGS Trailer

The bond between a boy and his dog knows no bounds in Isle of Dogs, the newest movie from writer/director Wes Anderson.

The film marks a return to stop-motion animation for Anderson, who probably found it easier to put fake dogs into perfectly symmetrical frames than their wiggly, real-life versions. Hey, it worked for Fantastic Mr. Fox, and like that film it allows a recognizable voice cast to traipse around as cute, cuddly animals.

In Isle of DogsBryan CranstonEdward NortonBill MurrayJeff Goldblum, and Bob Balaban are a pack of dogs in forced isolation with the rest of their canine brethren when a boy arrives looking for his pooch. The group decides to help the kid out, and off they go on one of Anderson’s signature capers.

Setting the film in Japan is the biggest nod we get in this trailer to one of Anderson’s stated influences, the legendary Akira Kurosawa. How exactly Kurosawa will blend with a community of dogs remains to be seen, but Anderson has made odder things work before.

Oddness, whimsy, these are Anderson’s bread and butter, and both look like they are present by the boatload in Isle of Dogs. Plus dogs! Who wouldn’t like this combination?

Isle of Dogs is directed by Wes Anderson and stars Bryan CranstonEdward Norton, and Bill Murray. It will be released in the U.S. on March 23rd, 2018 and in the U.K. on March 30th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
