INTERSTELLAR Trailer

Come one, come all! Christopher Nolan has provided us with a much-needed reprieve from the tedium of the summer movie season. Sure, it’s only a trailer, but it is a reminder that better films are coming over the horizon. Interstellar may be Nolan’s most ambitious film to date, but there is really not too much known about the specifics of the plot. The film features Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway (working again with Nolan after The Dark Knight Rises), Jessica Chastain, and Casey Affleck.
Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who use a wormhole to surpass the limits of human space travel and conquer vast distances on an interstellar voyage. The plot is believed to involve time travel and alternate dimensions, but other details are being kept under wraps.
Here’s the trailer:
Big studios gave a movie about wormholes a gigantic budget? Count me in. This is really the magic of Christopher Nolan. He manages to come up with very high-concept films that appeal to avid and casual moviegoers, alike. The Dark Knight trilogy is the most nuanced, thematically rich, and beautiful superhero series ever made, and it also managed to gross well over $2 billion worldwide. Nolan’s films managed to please the art house viewers as well as the children sprinting into the theater with Batman masks on.
That said, Interstellar seems to be taking on more mature subject matter. I would be lying if I said I had any sort of in-depth knowledge of the science of wormholes, but I am so excited about the concept. Nolan actually studied relativity at The California Institute of Technology to get as much of the science of the film right as he could. It is this dedication that separates filmmakers like Nolan from the sea of mediocre ones.
The trailer is incredibly refreshing, in that it doesn’t give away the entire film in what is supposed to be a preview. Everyone talks about how today’s trailers “show all the good parts”, but that is absolutely not the case here. The open-ended, ambiguous trailer makes me yearn for more. We get only a very broad idea of the movie: food is gone, some guy has a family and needs to save the world, and said guy goes into space. That’s really all it shows (other than beautiful visuals).
This film has everything going for it and it has jumped to the top of my most anticipated list, alongside Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming Inherent Vice. With a great cast (I am especially excited about Casey Affleck returning to relevancy, as he is one of the more underappreciated actors working today) and fascinating subject matter, this is a must-see.
Interstellar releases on November 7th in both the U.S. and U.K. Click here for other international release dates.

Jay is just a dude who takes in an unhealthy amount of media of all types. Currently living in Atlanta, Georgia, he firmly believes that all movie theaters should have leather recliners, you eat popcorn too loudly, and if you don't put that cellphone away in 2 seconds you will learn the definition of frontier justice.
