INSTANT FAMILY Trailer
Hi all, I'm a 27 year old Dutchman. I'm a…
Instant Family is inspired by the true story of a family (Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne) who decide to adopt three siblings (Isabela Moner, Gustavo Quiroz and Julianna Gamiz). As the kids move into their new home all sorts of wacky stuff starts to happen because these parents have no idea what they’re doing.
One of the more interesting things about this trailer is that it seems to hint at a possible exploration of some of the psychology behind the decision to adopt. At one point, Lizzy (Isabela Moner) tells her adoptive mother (Rose Byrne) “you’re just another white lady who wants to adopt charity orphans to make you feel good about yourself”. This is the sentiment behind often heard jokes about celebrities such as Madonna and Angelina Jolie who are widely known for adopting numerous children. Maybe this is one of the reasons why adoption does not seem to be a popular topic in films.
One of the few exceptions to this rule seems to be adaptations of true stories such as Instant Family and Lion which told the story of Saroo Brierly who managed to track down his biological family in India using Google Earth. Let’s hope the film lives up to its promising trailer.
Instant Family is directed by Sean Anders and stars Mark Wahlberg, Rose Byrne, Octavia Spencer, Isabela Moner, Gustavo Quiroz, Julianna Gamiz, Tig Notaro, Iliza Shlesinger and Tom Segura. It will be released in the U.S. on November 16th, 2018 and in the U.K. on February 15th, 2019. For international release dates click here.
