Crime and an unhealthy amount of social media lead to the titular descriptor in Infamous, the latest from writer/director Joshua Caldwell.
Boredom plays a factor too, as Arielle and Dean are wasting away in small-town Florida. So they take off, heading across the South and funding their trip with the occasional robbery. Then Arielle has a brilliant idea to record and post their exploits online, and as their followers grow, they grow bolder to satiate their fans.
The movie doesn’t shy away from its modern Bonnie and Clyde trappings (the also infamous robbers are name-dropped in the trailer), so one assumes this isn’t going to end well. How well Caldwell manages these expectations while still keeping it fresh will be key to whether this works or not, and luckily he has some experience with crime movies to lean on. His last film, Negative, also featured two people on the run, which should set him up nicely to pull this off.
He’s got a sturdy lead in Bella Thorne, who has more credits under her belt than many people twice her age. Jake Manley has been bouncing around the big and small screen a lot as well, so hopefully, they can make this road caper an interesting ride.
Infamous is directed by Joshua Caldwell and stars Bella Thorne, Jake Manley, and Amber Riley. It will be released in the US on VOD on June 12th, 2020. Further release dates are not currently known.
