One of the most talented female performers of our time gets the biography treatment in I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Naomi Ackie plays the icon, Whitney Houston, spanning from her origins to her international fame. After being discovered by Clive Davis (played here by Stanley Tucci), the film shows us how the unforgettable singer became a star.
Biography films, especially music ones, seem to be hit or miss. Here’s hoping this one is truly able to capture the scope of her effect on the world, and the measure of her talent. Expect to hear a lot of her hits, such as the titular one, to be heard throughout, making this, at the very least, a sensational music experience.
I Wanna Dance With Somebody is directed by Kasi Lemmons, written by Anthony McCarten, and stars Naomi Ackie, Ashton Sanders, and Stanley Tucci. It will be released in theaters in the US on December 23rd. For more international release dates click here.
