I USED TO GO HERE Trailer

You really can go back (sort of) in I Used to Go Here, the latest from writer/director Kris Rey.

Kate’s life is a mess of contradictions. She’s gotten a book published, which most of you know is no small feat. But she’s also in her mid-30s with no partner, and watching her friends pop out babies doesn’t make the loneliness of her personal life any easier. Perhaps that’s why she starts reminiscing while visiting her alma mater, and perhaps that’s why she lingers and pals around with some current students. The past was easier, or at least it had more opportunity, making it a seductive thing to slide back into.

Gillian Jacobs hanging around on campus as Kate should be comfortably familiar for Community fans, and like in that show she’s got a strong cast of comedic actors to bounce off of here. Jemaine Clement, Kate Micucci, and Hannah Marks co-star.

This looks like the kind of meandering hangout movie Rey specializes in, having made a handful of smaller films of the sort that premiere at SXSW and have strong Austin roots. This was, in fact, scheduled to premiere at the festival, but its cancellation threw off plans. Luckily it’s been picked up for a simultaneous theatrical and VOD release, where a smaller, more low-key film like this can thrive.

I Used to Go Here is directed by Kris Rey and stars Gillian Jacobs, Jemaine Clement, and Hannah Marks. It will be released in the US on August 7th, 2020 and in the UK on August 12th, 2020. For further release dates, click here.
