Women fight the man by taking their money in Hustlers, the latest from writer and director Lorene Scafaria.
In the film, a group of women working at a strip club notice that their skeezy, crooked clientele of Wall Street hotshots didn’t even break stride after ruining the economy and messing up the lives of millions. Meanwhile, they’re working hard to just to make ends meet, and a little more cash in their pocket (along with some righteous retribution) would suit them just fine. They see their opportunity and take it, pulling off a Robin Hood style scheme with an extra serving of sexiness.
Based on an article pulled from the New Yorker, Scafaria converted the true story to its glitzy big screen version. The project is a step away from her previous character-driven movie, The Meddler, and will require her to flex some genre muscles to pull off.
Helping her out is a top-notch cast, with Constance Wu leading the way as the brains behind the scheme and Jennifer Lopez as the seasoned pro holding the group together. Co-staring with them is Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo, and Cardi B. With a cast like that and a righteous (and real) story behind them, Hustlers should be a cathartic time at the movies.
Hustlers is directed by Lorene Scafaria and stars Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, and Julia Stiles. It will be released in the US and the UK on September 13th, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
