HOLMES & WATSON Trailer

There’s been plenty of Sherlock Holmes movies, but most never tried to be as irreverently funny as Holmes & Watson.

In the film, a bumbling Sherlock is challenged to solve a murder in four days or else the Queen gets it. The mastermind of this plot, Prof. Moriarty, helpfully leaves a signed note behind, but given how inept Holmes and Watson are in this version, that knowledge probably won’t be of much use. In fact, most of the film seems to be devoted to the high jinks of the titular duo, so there’s no reason to be confident in their abilities.

It’s a strange twist on a familiar story, but what’s getting people really excited is that it brings together Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly once again. The duo already honed their chemistry in Step Brothers and Talladega Nights, and this film appears to be a showcase for their beloved silliness. Ferrell has made Sherlock into a brilliant but oblivious buffoon while Reilly is channeling a starry-eyed hype man as Watson, with both characterizations sounding perfect given their strengths.

Writing and directing duties went to Etan Cohen, who worked with Ferrell before in Get Hard and had a hand in screenplays like Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy. He came up with this whole lunatic interpretation of Arthur Conan Doyle, but it’ll probably be Ferrell and Reilly who get the credit if this goes well.

Holmes & Watson is directed by Etan Cohen and stars Will FerrellJohn C. Reilly, and Rebecca Hall. It will be released in the US on December 21st, 2018 and in the UK on December 26th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
