THE HOLE IN THE GROUND Trailer

Get ready for another creepy kid to enter the horror arena, because The Hole in the Ground can’t stop at just its titular mysterious element. Oh no, it’s got to layer it on.
How that hole relates to the spider-eating kid remains to be seen, but what the trailer does lets us in on is the mother’s paranoia. She seems to think her kid might not have returned from the forest one night, with an impostor taking his place. But who (or what) would do such a thing, and how is she supposed to prove it without seeming like a raving lunatic?
Director and co-writer Lee Cronin makes his feature debut with this little chiller, and considering the film earned strong reviews out of the Sundance Film Festival, he may just be an exciting new figure in the genre scene. His earlier short, Ghost Train, earned several awards from its festival showings, so success wouldn’t be a one-time fluke.
In a promising move for a contained horror film, Cronin didn’t track down big names for his leads. Seána Kerslake and James Quinn Markey play the mother and son, and their fresh faces should allow audiences to sink more easily into this creepy scenario.
With the backing of A24 in the US, The Hole in the Ground could easily be this year’s breakout horror hit. Of course, we have to see if it lives up to the hype, first.
The Hole in the Ground is directed by Lee Cronin and stars Seána Kerslake, James Quinn Markey, and James Cosmo. It will be released in the US and the UK on March 1st, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
