HOLD THE DARK Trailer

Violence is assured in Hold the Dark, and not only because it’s from director Jeremy Saulnier.
Based on the novel of the same name, the film follows a wolf expert summoned to an Alaskan town to locate a six-year-old boy. The child was allegedly taken by animals, but the expert soon finds that the town has a web of mysteries. Sorting out what happened will require more than just animal knowledge; unless, of course, you count humans as animals.
Jeffrey Wright stars as the in over his head wolf expert, giving him a rare leading role. He’s got plenty of talent to play off of as well, with Riley Keough and Alexander Skarsgård appearing as the grieving parents. And with the casting of the often shady Skarsgård, there’s a distinct possibility those two could be more involved than they seem.
The film marks the first time Saulnier didn’t write his own screenplay, instead relying on frequent collaborator (and acclaimed filmmaker in his own right) Macon Blair to handle the adaptation. This shouldn’t take away from his grim and bloody style, though, as the story seems catered to the strengths we saw in Blue Ruin and Green Room. There’s isolation, death, and simmering unease, all things Saulnier has turned into great films before. This time it’s just a little colder.
Hold the Dark is directed by Jeremy Saulnier and stars Jeffrey Wright, Alexander Skarsgård, and James Badge Dale. It will be released on Netflix on September 28th, 2018.
